5 Elements of Mind Framework

The Five Elements of Mind Framework is a method for making sense of the different parts of ourselves, bringing them into balance, and learning how to move through life with more ease, awareness, and confidence.

This approach builds upon a model originally developed by Leas Maria, refining and expanding it into a structured yet intuitive process that blends psychology, somatic awareness, and consciousness studies. The core idea is that we aren’t just one singular mind—we have different parts, each with its own voice, perspective, and needs. When these parts work together, we experience inner harmony. When they don’t, we can feel stuck, conflicted, or out of alignment.

How It Works in Real Life

Let’s say someone is struggling with making a big decision—leaving a job, moving to a new city, or ending a relationship. On the surface, they may feel like they don’t know what to do. But when we break it down using the Five Elements of Mind, we start to see why the internal conflict exists:

Ego (The Lens) – “I’ve always seen myself as someone who sticks things out. If I leave, what does that say about me?”

Mental (The Focus Mechanism) – “Logically, I know staying isn’t good for me, but I keep finding reasons to justify it.”

Body (The Anchor) – “Every time I think about staying, I feel tension in my shoulders and stomach. My body already knows the answer.”

Emotions (The Sensor/Film) – “I’m afraid of regret. I don’t want to feel like I made the wrong choice.”

Soul (The Photographer) – “I keep having this deep knowing that I’m meant for something different. But I second-guess it.”

At first, these elements may seem to be in conflict, but when we recognize that each one is trying to contribute something valuable, we can create agreements between them. Instead of letting one dominate while the others resist, we begin a conversation that allows each element to be acknowledged and integrated.

The Camera Analogy: Seeing Clearly Through the Five Elements

Think of your mind like a camera:

Ego is the lens – It frames what we see, shaping our perception of reality. A scratched or distorted lens (limiting beliefs) can obscure the bigger picture.

Mental is the focus mechanism – It sharpens or blurs details, determining what we prioritize or overlook.

Body is the camera body – It provides structure, grounding the experience in the physical world.

Emotions are the film/sensor – They capture the depth and color of the experience, giving it richness.

Soul is the photographer – The higher perspective that composes the image and determines the story it tells.

When all these parts work in harmony, we see life with greater clarity. But if the lens is cracked (ego fears), the focus is off (mental overanalysis), or the film is damaged (emotional overwhelm), our ability to interpret reality is compromised. The Five Elements of Mind helps us restore balance, creating a clearer and more truthful image of ourselves and our path.

How the Processors Interact & Create Harmony

Rather than forcing a decision from a place of mental analysis or emotional reactivity, we facilitate an agreement between the processors:

Ego & Soul Connection: The ego needs reassurance that change doesn’t mean failure. The soul can help by offering a higher perspective: “You are not leaving because you failed. You are leaving because you’ve outgrown this.”

Mental & Emotional Balance: The mental mind provides logic, but it needs the emotional processor to be on board. Instead of battling between “I should” and “I feel”, we can find common ground: “I acknowledge my fear, but I also trust that I am capable of handling what comes next.”

Body as the Final Truth Teller: The body often knows before the mind does. If the body tightens at one option and relaxes at another, it’s signaling coherence or resistance. By listening to its cues, we allow the body to guide us toward alignment.

Emotions as the Bridge: Emotions connect the mind and body. When emotions are honored, they guide us toward what feels true. Rather than seeing them as obstacles, we can recognize them as signals leading us toward deeper alignment.

Soul as the Integrator: The soul offers a wider perspective, helping all the other processors come into agreement. When we allow the soul to guide rather than override the other elements, we move with trust instead of fear.

When these processors work together rather than against each other, clarity naturally arises. It’s not about silencing any one part, but rather allowing them to harmonize into an agreement that feels right on every level.

What This Can Offer You

The Five Elements of Mind isn’t just a method or concept—it’s a tool you can learn to use:

For Clarity – If you’re struggling to make a decision, this method helps you hear each part of yourself clearly instead of getting stuck in loops of overthinking.

For Emotional Healing – If you feel emotionally overwhelmed, this approach helps you process your feelings instead of suppressing them.

For Self-Trust – If you keep ignoring your intuition or second-guessing yourself, this framework helps you distinguish between fear and deep inner knowing.

For Alignment – If you feel like your actions and values don’t match, this process helps you realign in a way that feels true to you.

When you begin listening to yourself in this way, patterns emerge. Clarity follows. And instead of feeling at war with yourself, you start to feel like a team.

TESTIMONIALS

"Working with Julian has been such a gift. The way he patiently and methodically and gently opens up and soothes one's life wounds is marvelous to me. I felt that, in working with him, I could readily speak my truth. There were wounds that have lingered for decades that he unlocked for me, and during our session I felt them relinquish and truly heal. Together we found all of the thoughts/emotions/beliefs etc that were blocking my healing around those wounds. I love this profound work and can't wait to do more." -KitBess, LAc

"Julian's gifts as a healer and teacher are made evident through his guidance within the 5em tool.  Each time I work with him I am left wanting more. He is thorough and his instincts are right on, in terms of his ability to move someone through the process of direct communication and processing of one's internal personality structure, something that the 5em, in my experience, is far superior than any other tool, which attempts to illuminate, one's lessons regarding conflicts, trauma, illness, etc.I always feel safe when working with him, and feel as a man, held in the arms of spiritual integrity, allowing me to explore, experience, and express the deepest emotional pain, opening me up to healing and a deeper self-knowledge. I love this work and would recommend Julian to anyone curious to learn." -Paul Moore, Writer
